Michael Embry was born in Kentucky and graduated from Eastern High School in Louisville and Eastern Kentucky University. Among his "hometowns" are Louisville, Leitchfield, Lexington, Richmond, Jeffersontown, Campbellsville, Madisonville, Morehead, and Hopkinsville. He also attended Taylor County and Hopkinsville high schools and Morehead State University and the University of Louisville. Embry is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, spending most of his time at Whiteman AFB in Missouri. Embry is the author of seven books--three nonfiction sports books and four novels. He worked for Kentucky newspapers in Madisonville and Lexington and a national news service, making stops in Louisville, New York, Milwaukee and Lexington. He retired as editor of Kentucky Monthly magazine in Frankfort in 2006. Embry embarked on new career path in 2009 when he joined the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security as Community/State Communications Coordinator. Embry is listed in the 2009 edition of Who's Who in America. Embry and his wife, Mary, live in Frankfort, Kentucky. They have two sons, Justin and Sean, a daughter-in-law, Melissa (Justin's wife), and a granddaughter, Lily Sofia. And they have two Yorkshire Terriers--7-year-old Bucky and 12- year-old Baxter.
